The Golden Jubilee Approaches… Al-Sharaireh Announces His Vision for Yarmouk University in Its Fiftieth Year
By: Mohammad Mohsen Obaidat – Nairoz News

The Royal Decree appointing Professor Dr. Malek Al-Sharaireh as President of Yarmouk University for a renewable four-year term was not just an ordinary event in the history of this academic institution. It marked a defining moment, signaling the beginning of a new era of work and achievement at a university nearing its fiftieth anniversary—a university that has embraced more than a quarter of a million graduates, each leaving their mark in every field and domain.

Al-Sharaireh, who assumed his duties on Thursday morning, appeared fully aware from the very first moment of the weight of responsibility placed upon him. In his inaugural speech, he declared:
"Yarmouk University has never been just an educational institution; it has always been a space for creativity and a home for excellence. This obliges us all to work shoulder to shoulder, to safeguard its legacy, build on its accomplishments, and carry it forward into the future."

Between a Glorious Past and a Promising Future

Today, as Yarmouk stands at the threshold of its golden jubilee, it is more than a university—it is a national memory and a factory of human talent, continuously feeding the nation and the world with knowledge and skill. While its solid reputation remains a precious asset, Al-Sharaireh believes that this alone is not enough unless coupled with renewed effort and a positive spirit. He affirmed: "What is required today is double the effort, to create greater achievements with wider impact.”

The Student at the Core of Education

Because the student is the heartbeat of the university, Al-Sharaireh stressed that his central mission lies in graduating generations capable of blending knowledge with skill, creativity, and influence. He added:
"The student will never be just a number in a classroom; he is the axis around which our entire mission revolves. Our responsibility demands that we shape him into a model of achievement, commitment, and the ability to inspire change."

At the same time, he emphasized that Yarmouk will remain open to the local community in Irbid, deeply interconnected with its institutions and citizens, and a key driver for the economy of the governorate and the Kingdom as a whole.

A Heartfelt Message to the University Family

In a warm and sincere message, Al-Sharaireh addressed the university family—faculty, administrators, and students—saying:
"Today I stand before you carrying a great responsibility, with the supreme interest of the university as my compass. I pledge to remain at equal distance from everyone, showing no bias except to competence, ability, and achievement. With you, for Yarmouk, the faithful fortress."

A Call to Students and Alumni

Speaking directly to students, Al-Sharaireh said:
"Every morning, I will look into your eyes to draw strength and determination. Do not fear questioning, experimenting, or even failing, for failure is sometimes the first step toward greater success. Believe in yourselves—you are capable of creating positive change, even if it takes time."

To the alumni, he declared:
"Together, we will carry Yarmouk to greater heights—making it a magnet for talent, a beacon of knowledge, and a destination for students and partners from all corners of the world. We want it to be a university open to the globe, building bridges of knowledge and partnership, and a flexible institution capable of confronting future challenges with confidence and competence."

Leadership on the Ground

Al-Sharaireh did not stop at words. From his very first day, he translated his vision into action with a field tour across several departments and faculties—from the Model School to the Admission and Registration Department, the Finance Department, and Public Relations. He stressed that success can only be achieved through on-the-ground engagement and collective effort.

A Vision for the Future

Thus, Al-Sharaireh steps into the presidency of Yarmouk University with a tone of determination and words filled with promise. His vision is built on strengthening quality education, supporting impactful scientific research, and deepening social responsibility. His ultimate aspiration is for Yarmouk to remain a house of dreams, a beacon of knowledge, and a "faithful fortress” for generations who will shape tomorrow and write the chapters of the future.
