Nayrouz News Agency :

Ten new COVID-19 cases, all from abroad, were registered in the Kingdom on Sunday, and with a lower number of local cases, the Greater Amman Municipality  (GAM) has announced that Amman’s gardens and parks will reopen early next month after a more than three-month long pandemic-induced lockdown.

Sunday's cases increased the Kingdom's total caseload to 1,121, according to a government statement.

The new cases included seven Jordanians returning from abroad — one from Saudi Arabia and six from Egypt — who have been in quarantine at designated hotels.

Also among the new cases were three truck drivers, two Jordanians and one non-Jordanian, who tested positive at the Omari border crossing, the statement added.

Also on Sunday, 19 recovered patients left Prince Hamzah Hospital, while 5,148 virus tests were conducted, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the beginning of the crisis to 374,708, according to the statement.

As most sectors are now allowed to operate, the Ministry of Health has stressed the importance of abiding by preventive measures, notably wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing, highlighting that although the number of infections have declined at the local level, the risks of the pandemic are not over yet.

The ministry has renewed its call on citizens to use the "Aman” (Safety) application, which alerts users if they come into contact with a person infected with the virus.

The ministry also urged those who have received alerts from the app to "quickly visit specialised health centres and laboratories” for testing.

Meanwhile, Deputy City Director for Health and Agricultural Affairs Mervat Mheirat, in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said that the reopening of Amman's parks came in implementation of statements from the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health, highlighting the GAM’s efforts in sterilising the capital’s 143 public parks and 16 forest parks.
