 One virus-related death, 117 coronavirus cases, including 113 local infections, were recorded in the Kingdom on Saturday, increasing the caseload to 3,062, according to the government.

The deceased was identified as a woman in her 60s, increasing the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 22.

The local cases comprised 76 infections in Amman, of which 33 are contacts of COVID-19 patients and the sources of the other 43 COVID-19 patients are under investigation.

Also among the domestic infections are 16 cases in Zarqa, 15 in Balqa, three in Karak, two in Irbid and one in Jerash, according to a joint statement by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry.

The four cases from abroad were Jordanians who tested positive at the Dead Sea quarantine area.

Meanwhile, 72 recoveries were registered during the past 24 hours, including 14 from Prince Hamzah Hospital, 55 from the  Dead Sea quarantine area and three from Queen Alia Military Hospital, the statement said.

A total of 9,222 random virus tests were also conducted on Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the beginning of the crisis to 968,247.

On Friday, Jordan registered 206 virus cases, including 197 local infections. The local cases comprised 136 infections reported in Amman, 33 in Balqa, nine in Karak, nine in Irbid, seven in Zarqa and three in Madaba.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by Defence Order No.11 and adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the "Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a person infected with the virus, as well as "Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to the COVID-19 disease, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological status.
