One death related to the coronavirus and 196 coronavirus cases, including 191 local infections, were recorded on Saturday, increasing the caseload since the outbreak of the pandemic in the Kingdom to 4,540, the government announced.
The new COVID-19 fatality, reported in Toutanji Hospital, has taken the country’s coronavirus death toll to 30.
The local cases comprised 88 infections in Amman, 44 in Zarqa, 23 in Balqa, 10 in Karak, 10 in Jerash, seven in Irbid, one case in Ramtha, three in Southern Shuneh, three in Madaba, one in Maan, in addition to a case reported in Ajloun.
The cases from abroad consisted of five individuals, all of which have been in quarantine at designated hotels, a joint statement by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry said.
Meanwhile, 161 recoveries were registered in the past 24 hours, including two from Prince Hamzah Hospital, 156 from the Dead Sea quarantine sites and three from Queen Alia Hospital, the statement added.
A total of 11,484 random virus tests were also conducted on Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered to 1,057,184.
Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders No.11 and No.16, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.
The ministry also highlighted the "Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as "Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
