Four COVID-19 deaths and 1,776 coronavirus cases, including 1,765 local infections, were recorded on Wednesday, Health Minister Saad Jaber announced.

The new fatalities took the country’s coronavirus death toll to 61.

The local cases comprised 745 infections in Amman, 43 in Karak, 67 in Balqa, 740 in Zarqa, 78 in Maan, 19 in Ajloun, 40 in Madaba, one case in Mafraq, three in Jerash, 23 in Irbid, five in Aqaba, in addition to a case in Tafileh.

Speaking during a joint press briefing at the Prime Ministry, Jaber said that cases from abroad comprised 11 truck drivers arriving to the Kingdom through border crossings.

Meanwhile, 130 recoveries were registered on Wednesday, leaving a total of 1,158 patients still receiving treatment, he added, pointing out that 16,621 virus tests were also conducted.

In spite of a surge in COVID-19 cases, a number of people are still questioning "the existence of the coronavirus”, the health minister said, calling on the public to avoid gatherings and celebrations that violate safety measures, as well as to abide physical distancing, wearing face masks and using steriliser to protect themselves and others.
