HRH Princess Basma announced the launch of the 56th Annual International Diplomatic Bazaar for Mabarrat Um Al Hussein for the year 2020.
"The Diplomatic Bazaar has become a symbol of social solidarity, which brings together diplomatic missions, sponsors and dedicated Bazaar visitors to shop the world and celebrate cultures and cuisines,” according to a statement from the princess office.
The princess pointed out that "due to physical distancing requirements of COVID 19, the bazaar’s approach may differ, but its philanthropic ideal remains at the heart of our event, in its support for the children of Mabarrat Um Al Hussein”.
Instead of a traditional bazaar, this year there will be a virtual raffle. Anyone can enter by sending an empty SMS message to 98869 for JD1, to be deducted from the subscribers’ balance or added to their monthly bill, the statement said.
Participants can win a range of different prizes donated by the bazaar’s supporters and partners. Winners will be chosen in a virtual live draw that will be held by the end of October.
All proceeds from the bazaar go to the Mabarrat Um Al Hussein, which has provided support for vulnerable children and at risk youth since 1958.
The institute offers shelter, food, clothing, health check-ups, educational and non-curricular activities and also provides educational and recreational services to local community members in Marka, East Amman.
Mabarrat graduates, many of whom endured a difficult start in life, now work in a broad range of professions, including teaching, accountancy, retail, IT and the armed forces, the statement said.
"Today, after 62 years, we continue to take pride in the capable and confident young Jordanians who graduate from Mabarrat Um Al Hussein, with opportunities for a brighter and more constructive future,” the princess said.
