Jordan records 66 COVID deaths, 6,454 infections

Sixty-six COVID-19 deaths and 6,454 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload to 155,993, the government announced, noting that there are currently 63,817 active cases in Jordan.

The reported fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 1,909, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The cases comprised 2,641 infections in Amman, 1,131 in Irbid, including 334 in Ramtha District, 590 in Ajloun, 418 in Mafraq, 371 in Balqa, 356 in Zarqa, 214 in Aqaba, 214 in Madaba, 205 in Maan, including 42 in Petra District, 157 in Tafileh, 110 in Karak and 47 in Jerash.

A total of 289 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 2,153, of which 474 patients were in ICUs.

The statement added that 200 recovered patients left hospitals, while 4,658 recoveries reported among patients under home-quarantine and hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 90,267.

A total of 27,441 virus tests were also conducted on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered to 2,237,942, with the share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, standing at 23.5 per cent, the statement added.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the "Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as "Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.

The ministry also called on the public to follow its awareness campaign.
