Jordan on Wednesday deplored the continued Israeli violations at Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, the most recent of which was, on Tuesday, when Israeli armed forces broke the locks of the mosque’s doors, namely the door of the chain and the door leading to the roof of the Islamic museum, as well as cutting the wires of the external speakers in the western part of Al Haram.
The provocations also included confronting the staff of the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
The ministry’s spokesperson Daifallah Fayez stressed the rejection and condemnation of such actions that provoke Muslims around the world and represent a clear violation to the legal and historical status quo.
Al Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship for Muslims only, noting that the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department, under international law and legal and historical status quo, is the authority to supervise its affairs and manage entries, he added.
Fayez also called on Israeli authorities, the occupying force, to stop its violations and provocations and respect the legal and historical status quo, as well as the authority of the Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department.
