The Foreign Ministry on Friday condemned Israeli forces’ storming of Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif compound and attacking worshippers.
Ministry Spokesperson Defaillah Fayez said that such actions represent a rejected provocative behaviour that undermines all international efforts and endeavours that led to the ceasefire in the Palestinian territories, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Fayez called on Israel, as the occupying power, to adhere to its obligations, stop the attacks on Al Aqsa Mosque and worshippers and respect the legal and historical status quo in the holy city of Jerusalem.
The spokesperson said that the success of the efforts to reach the ceasefire and ending the aggression on Gaza is a positive and necessary step, and Israel must abide by it and stop the provocations and escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He also called for continuing effective international efforts to reach "a political horizon” to resume serious negotiations aimed to realise a just, permanent and comprehensive peace according to the two-state solution under international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Kingdom, since the beginning of the escalation, has cooperated with influential parties in the region and the world to stop attacks on Gaza and the illegal Israeli violations in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, Fayez noted.
He also praised the Egyptian, Qatari and US efforts in reaching the ceasefire in the Palestinian territories.
