EBRD board on virtual visit to Jordan

Representatives of the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) were scheduled to start their virtual visit to Jordan on Tuesday. 

It will allow shareholder representatives to meet with policymakers, businesses and civil society organisations.

The discussions will focus on efforts to overcome the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the Jordanian economy, according to an EBRD statement.

The EBRD board representatives will meet Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and EBRD Governor Nasser Shraideh, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala ِZawati, Ministry’s Secretary General Amani Al Azzam and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan Adel Al Sharkas.

The delegation will also meet Mayor of the Greater Amman Municipality Yousef Shawarbeh, Managing Director of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) Amjad Rawashdeh and representatives of civil society organisations and the business community.

In addition, they will participate in a roundtable discussion with development partners, including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, KfW Development Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Canadian governmental department Global Affairs Canada.

Since the start of its operations in Jordan in 2012, the EBRD has provided more than 1.5 billion euros in financing for 60 projects, according to the statement.
