The Kingdom on Wednesday celebrates the 22nd anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah’s coronation, an occasion that marks Jordanians’ aspirations to continue nation-building, entrepreneurship and progress.
This year’s anniversary coincides with the centennial of the establishment of the Jordanian state, where Jordanians move forward towards the comprehensive reform process that His Majesty has adopted.
Despite exceptional circumstances Jordan is going through due to the COVID-19 pandemic, citizens top all national priorities through seeking to secure necessary vaccines and treatments to preserve citizens’ health and safety, which King Abdullah has stressed since the outbreak of the pandemic.
King Abdullah, over the past two decades, has dedicated his effort to supporting state institutions and realising the comprehensive development, in addition to having solid relations with brotherly and friendly countries, supporting international peace efforts and serving the just causes of the Arab and Islamic nations.
Since assuming his constitutional responsibilities, on June 9, 1999, His Majesty has been keen on enriching the democratic practice and expanding and upgrading the role of the legislature.
Since His Majesty took the constitutional oath, he has implemented key reforms, paramount of which were constitutional amendments.
The amendments necessitated the enforcement of several new laws governing Jordan’s political life. The Independent Elections Commission was established, while His Majesty issued two Royal Decrees endorsing key reform-related pieces of legislation: The political parties and constitutional court laws.
The King has stressed on many occasions that everyone is a partner in the reform process, highlighting the need to finalise the elections law and hold parliamentary polls before the end of the year.
He has also noted that, in order for political development to be sustainable, it has to go in parallel with economic reforms that improve the living standards of Jordanians.
King Abdullah has also been meeting with members of local communities in their respective areas and participating in the development of strategies to improve their living conditions, among them the Basman Forum meetings.
Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah, continues its historic custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, preserving the Arab identity of the city of Jerusalem as the future capital of Palestine.
Recent events in Jerusalem, the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and the Israeli attack on Gaza topped His Majesty’s concerns, where he led a series of contacts and intensified diplomatic efforts to lift injustice on Palestinians and urge the international community to bear its responsibilities in stopping Israeli violations in Jerusalem and Gaza.
Under the leadership of King Abdullah, Jordan offers all its capabilities to combat the threats of terrorism and extremism, mainly through initiatives that aim to enhance inter-faith dialogue.
Side by side with His Majesty, Her Majesty Queen Rania dedicates her efforts on activities and programmes that contribute to providing qualitative education and stimulating excellence, entrepreneurship and creativity, in a way that can empower individuals and communities
