FM calls for enhancing intelligence cooperation at antiDaesh coalition meet
Nayrouz News Agency :
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday in Rome participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS in Rome, upon a joint invitation by Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Safadi stressed the importance of the meeting in sending a message that confirms the ongoing efforts of the coalition to eradicate Daesh and all terrorist groups, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The minister said that the US-led coalition has achieved big success in the war against terrorism, including ending the territorial control of Daesh in Syria and Iraq, noting that, as His Majesty King Abdullah always stresses, Daesh has been defeated but not eradicated, and is still posing a security and ideological threat.

In this regard, he reiterated the significance of enhancing intelligence cooperation to face the security threat represented by terrorism.

"The battle to uncover the dark ideology of Daesh, which surely has no relation to the true values of Islam, is our battle in the Islamic world, where the war against terrorism is fought in defence of our peoples, interests and values,” Safadi stressed.

The minister also highlighted the importance of ending conflicts and changing environments of despair that terrorism feeds on, calling for reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis and intensifying efforts to instil stability, mainly in southern Syria where "terrorism is trying to rebuild its capabilities”.

He called for instilling the victory achieved by Iraq over terrorism through tremendous sacrifices and urged support for the Iraqi government in its efforts to instil stability and increase reconstruction.

Jordan will continue working with partners in the coalition, exerting every possible effort, including through the Aqaba meetings path that adopts a comprehensive approach in fighting terrorism so as to achieve a sustainable victory over terrorism, he said.

The meeting aims at enhancing coordination among member states of the coalition to face the threat posed by Daesh and instilling stability in freed areas in Syria and Iraq, in addition to discussing the increasing danger to pro-Daesh groups in Africa, mainly in the Sahel Region in the eastern parts of the continent, according to the statement.
