King Sejong Institute inaugurated at UJ

— President of the University of Jordan (UJ)   Abdul Karim Al Qudah and South Korean Ambassador to Jordan Lee Jae-wan on Sunday inaugurated the first King Sejong Institute in Jordan at the university. 

In his address Qudah voiced appreciation of the Korean support to Jordan, noting that the Korean-Jordanian cultural cooperation will deepen with the establishment of King Sejong Institute, according to a UJ statement. 

Qudah emphasised the importance of Korean culture and thanked the Korean government for its continuous support for the Korean language programme at the university by providing it with highly qualified and trained instructors, the statement said. 

The ambassador thanked the university for hosting the institute, commending the cultural cooperationbetween the two countries and stressed commitment to enhancing cultural cooperation between Korea and Jordan.  

The director of King Sejong Institute Amman, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Yousef Abu Amrieh said that UJ has always been "a cultural beacon” that boosts Jordan’s position of fostering cultural diversity. 

"To this end, the school has been committed since it was founded more than a decade ago to promote cross-cultural dialogues and keep corridors of talks open with other cultures and nations,” he added. 

 As part of strengthen relations between the republic of Korea and Jordan, the King Sejong Institute in Amman organised a conversation contest in which 22 students took part. Students Shahed Al Sawaf, Layan Al Sweilemeen and Nagam Dwiri won the first three places, respectively.  

 The inauguration of the King Sejong Institute Amman, which is one of 243 institutes spread around the world, took place at the Translation Centre on campus in presence of the Korean cultural attaché, Korean language instructors, students, and faculty members and administrators from the school of foreign languages.
