Prince Mired, Iraq delegation review Jordan’s expertise in legislation for people with disabilities
Nayrouz News Agency :
HH Prince Mired, the president of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), and an Iraqi official delegation on Saturday discussed several issues related to people with disabilities and overviewed Jordan’s experience in providing an accommodating legislative environment for them.

Prince Mired stressed the "deep-rooted” relations between Jordan and Iraq in various fields and expressed his willingness to develop relations in a way that can achieve joint interests and enhance the rights of people with disabilities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The prince also reviewed the Kingdom’s efforts to support the issues of people with disabilities and overviewed the priorities of the council’s action, such as accessibility, integrative education, diagnosis, employment and shelter alternatives.

HCD Secretary General Muhannad Azzeh said that the Law on the Rights of People with Disabilities is in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Jordan was among the first countries to ratify. He noted that the convention has become an integral part of the national legislation.

Azzeh also highlighted the effective role of the private sector to enhance the integration of people with disabilities in the labour market and empower them to practise their rights and engage in work in environments that achieve equality, justice and equal opportunities, which can help reduce unemployment.

Iraqi Minister of Social Development Adel Hashoush praised the leading role of the Kingdom in supporting issues of people with disabilities and referred to the challenges and obstacles facing Iraq to integrate people with disabilities despite developments in legislation.
