Locally manufactured high quality school uniforms for both public and private schools are available in the local market at reasonable prices, according to the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI).

The garment sector is prepared to receive the new academic year by supplying school uniforms to the local market at prices that suit everyone, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported quoting the representative of the leather and textile industry at the JCI, Ehab Qadri, on Saturday.

"The demand for school supplies will boost the economy. Seventy to 80 per cent of each dinar used to purchase a local product contributes to the national economy,” Qadri said in the statement.

Rahaf  Samara, who manages uniforms at a private school in Amman, noted that the demand for uniforms was at its lowest levels last year due remote learning.

"This year, students are eager to go back to school and the demand has been relatively good. Students are excited to have new uniforms and return to their classrooms,” Samara told The Jordan Times on Sunday.

Anas Farouq, a uniform shop owner in downtown Amman, pointed out that the demand for uniforms has risen during August as schools are about to open.

Farouq noted that they have suffered great losses during the pandemic.

"The shop is my main source of income. Last year was really difficult as we did not sell anything due to the online education,” he added.

"I am optimistic about this year. The demand is good and we are selling uniforms daily,” Farouq told The Jordan Times on Saturday.

According to Petra, the number of facilities that manufacture school uniforms stands at around 100 businesses across the Kingdom, employing approximately 5,000 Jordanian workers, both men and women.
