Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Sunday visited the Cardiac Catheterisation Department at Al Bashir Hospital.
The department has started receiving patients and performing cardiovascular surgery and cardiac catheterisation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the inauguration of Al Bashir Hospital for Specialised Surgery in July, Khasawneh gave directives to complete the preparation of the cardiac catheterisation department in the hospital within a month and a half and shorten the period that the hospital had set for its operation within three months.
Accompanied by Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs Ibrahim Jazi and Minister of Health Feras Al Hawari to the Specialised Surgery Hospital of Al Bashir Hospitals, Khasawneh listened to the patients who underwent catheterisation operations and wished them a speedy recovery.
The department conducted four cardiac catheterisation operations on Sunday and two catheterisation operations last Thursday.
The Hospital for Specialized Surgery, which was inaugurated by the prime minister, is specialised in thoracic, vascular, catheter and heart surgery.
The hospital, which is located on the premises of Al Bashir Hospitals, includes modern equipment and receives cases from all hospitals in the Kingdom.
It was established with funding from the Joint Grant Fund to support the Ministry of Health with an amount of about JD7.5 million.
Hawari stressed that the Hospital for Specialised Surgery will be a centre for training health personnel on heart, chest and vascular surgeries until this expertise is transferred to other hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health.
The health minister pointed out that the cardiac catheterisation department was equipped to keep pace with the increasing number of patients who need surgical interventions.
He stressed that the new department would also spare the Ministry the treatment bill resulting from referring patients for cardiac catheterisation to hospitals that are not affiliated with the Health Ministry.
