Minister of Health Dr. Firas Hawari inaugurated remotely on Thursday, the 20th International Conference of the Jordanian Oncology Society (JOS) at Jordan Medical Association (JMA), with local, Arab and foreign participation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hawari said Jordan has made successes in the tumor treatment, adding that its key interest aims to provide the necessary health services to cancer patients particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The conference activities will be "inspiring and rich," he said, adding that related working papers and tumor-based scientific research, diagnosis and treatment will enrich the experience.

Also speaking was JOS's director at JMA, Dr. Sami Khatib, who said oncology has witnessed a "remarkable" revolution in important scientific research during the past two decades, as physicians have an "accurate" knowledge of disease causes, adding that a set of "important" medicines have been produced accordingly.

For his part, head of the conference's scientific committee, Dr. Samir Yasser, said the event provides 16 medical educational hours and will discuss 54 lectures presented by "distinguished" university faculty.

Some 1,250 doctors attend the three-day conference from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, the United States, Britain, Germany, Belgium, Algeria and Sudan, representing various medical sectors, according to a JOS statement.
