Omar Damra - Director of Miyahuna Management in Zarqa, Youssef Al-Aitan, said that Zarqa Governorate will have the largest share of the quantities of water that it is hoped to obtain through the implementation of the national water project "Water Desalination of the Gulf of Aqaba".
Al-Aitan indicated, during a press interview today, Monday, that the project includes the establishment of desalination plants and transmission lines for desalinated water to all governorates of the Kingdom.
He added that pumping has now been completed from four government wells in Zarqa Governorate that were drilled during the past year, with an estimated quantity of 600 cubic meters per hour, from Azraq, Hallabat, and El Corodore regions, east of the governorate.
All wells and water sources that were secured and purchased from private wells "ten wells" were operated, with a quantity of about 1200 cubic meters per hour, as part of the work to improve the individual's share in Zarqa and continue to do so for various uses, especially drinking water.
He stressed that the focus was on making the water sources supplied to the governorate for the most part semi-independent and not affected by the water supply sources from outside the governorate, as the focus was on the water supply sources in the Azraq and Hallabat regions and the Corodore area east of Zarqa through the water fields in the Azraq water basin.
He noted that the management of Miyahuna Company in Zarqa has now become a work system from all technical departments regarding the process of water distribution, network management, pumping stations and water resources management, and managing subscriber services, through a consistent approach, considering that Zarqa citizens have priority in obtaining the optimal service.
With regard to reducing the amount of water wastage, Al-Aitan pointed out that measures have been implemented to reduce the rate of water loss through the implementation of security and administrative campaigns to control the illegal uses of water in different regions, in addition to installing modern meters for a number of subscribers, especially large consumers, with the aim of controlling the reading of the consumed quantities. Periodically and accurately, in addition to projects to improve the water supply to the old water networks and lines, which led to a significant reduction in water losses.
Security and administrative campaigns are now being implemented to control illegal uses of water, in coordination with the security and administrative authorities, in addition to redoubling efforts by technical teams to increase the speed of response to cases of damage and fractures in networks and water carriers, with the aim of reducing the percentage of technical losses of water.
He pointed out that several projects have been implemented to improve the water supply system related to water networks, conveying lines and pumping stations, pointing to the continuation of implementing projects funded by various donors in America and Germany with regard to improving water networks, conveying lines, technical pumping systems and a comprehensive survey of subscribers, in order to facilitate The process of reading meters and facilitating the citizens in the process of paying bills, as there are 190,000 subscribers in the governorate.
Al-Aitan stressed that in the governorate, despite water scarcity and difficult water conditions, the regular supply of all Zarqa areas was maintained according to the program and the role prepared for this, once a week, while work is currently underway to conduct a short-term study to implement several projects and establish new water sources to improve water supply. For the next two years.
Al-Aitan pointed out that the management of Miyahuna has worked during the last period to spare Zarqa the interruptions of water resources affected by climate change and the scarcity of the rainy season as much as possible, and the continuity of the water supply as best as possible, and taking into account equality and justice in the water supply in all areas of the governorate from Azraq to the east And even Birin in the west, and from Al-Hashmiyah in the north to Rusaifa in the south.
