The start of the activities of the political week for universities
Nayrouz News Agency :
Today, Sunday, the University of Jordan witnessed the first launch of the activities of the Universities Political Week, which was organized in cooperation with the Independent Election Commission; With the aim of introducing young people to the electoral law, and raising their awareness of the law on parties, participation and political empowerment.
The President of the University of Jordan, Dr. Nazir Obeidat, said during his sponsorship of the launch, that the authority today is for creativity and innovation; For those who raise the voice of reason, science and knowledge, those will find the future they imagine. As for academia, in its traditional form, there is no place for it anymore, but for critical thinking open to various differences and beliefs, where the teacher and student are partners in the process of integration, listening, gaining experiences and networking with business owners.
In light of the new trend towards political action, Obeidat called for the consolidation of academic and scientific values, national and moral constants, and the preservation of the identity of universities as neutral institutions with their own academic entity and personality.
In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, Engineer Musa Al-Maaytah, stressed that the commission seeks, through this political week, to implement the royal directives and the directives of His Highness the Crown Prince in promoting youth and student participation in decision-making, to build the national youth generation that believes in its homeland and leadership, and applies its legislation And accepting of the other, and able to the language of dialogue, communication and cooperation.
Al-Maaytah added that the Jordanian state has decided today that the solution is participation, provided that participation is effective and based on pluralism, acceptance of the other, citizenship and the rule of law, to present Jordan the model that we all want based on state institutions and the law, and which adopts democracy as a basic approach in the relationship between all authorities and the various popular categories.
He explained that the authority also seeks, through these awareness campaigns, to educate young people, as the next stage is entitled: "Team work, and there is no place for individual work,” noting that this is what we were keen on and our goal for when approving the outputs of the Political Modernization Committee, which provided young people with a golden opportunity to activate Their political participation and representation in parties and parliament, especially with the approaching issuance of the system of organizing partisan work in universities, which provides a safe and organized space for them to practice partisan activities at the university, pinning his hope on the educated and aware youth to capture this signal and work hard to provide a positive model for the next generation.
For his part, the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jordan, Dr. Ismail Al-Zayoud, stressed that in light of this important and great transformation that Jordan is witnessing, it is necessary to search for inclusiveness away from the individual interests, with the launch of partisan freedom and the upgrading of the role of youth, especially in Jordanian universities. , to proceed on a firm ground side by side with the educational process in a way that does not affect its stability and its progress in the corridors of our educational edifices, pointing out that young people are the leaders of the future, and upon them and through them hope is established.
The launch of the political week includes setting up a corner to introduce the election law and the law of parties and distributing brochures in several locations on the university campus for a period of 5 days, in addition to in-depth discussions on the contexts and directions adopted by our modern Jordan in its second centenary, after which the work is extended to various official universities.
