Nayrouz News Agency :

Director of Public Security Directorate (PSD) Maj. Gen. Obaidullah Maaytah, in presence of Interior Minister, Mazen Faraya, on Wednesday met with Iraqi Interior Minister, Lieut. Gen. Abdulamir Kamel Shammari and his accompanying security delegation.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries' security apparatuses , especially in areas related to strengthening joint cooperation and exchanging security and police expertise, according to a PSD statement.

During the meeting, Maaytah hailed "strong and deep-rooted brotherly " Jordan-Iraq relations in various fields, adding that the security and police field is a key file that the two countries are keen to develop and open "broader" horizons and frameworks, which would guarantee maintaining the "highest" levels of security coordination and exchanging police and training expertise.

This effort, he noted, would enhance the two countries' security and societal peace and contribute to combating crime in all its forms, especially terrorist and cross-border crimes.

Maaytah referred to Royal directives, which aim to continuously open cooperation with Iraqi side and provide support to meet all Iraq's needs.

Jordan, he said, seeks to expand joint security collaboration, which extends over multiple years, based on continued security coordination and steps to address security developments in the region, and face "new" patterns of cross-border crime, primarily drugs, human trafficking, terrorism, and extremist ideology.

Maaytah indicated importance of signing the agreement between the two countries' interior ministries on Wednesday, which would enhance all aspects of security cooperation and coordination and exchange information and expertise.

Maaytah also noted the agreement focuses on capacity building and concerted efforts to boost the joint security work process, which would reflect "positively" on performance of the two countries' security apparatuses and maintain channels of operational and intelligence cooperation and coordination.
