5 illegal water wells seized in southern Jordan Valley
Nayrouz News Agency : The Ministry of Water and Irrigation, in a joint crackdown with security forces, on Tuesday demolished five illegal wells that supplied thousands of cubic meters of underground water daily to farms in the Southern Shouneh region of the Jordan Valley.

The ministry said in a statement that it continued a campaign on attacks on water sources and seal violating wells in cooperation with the Interior Ministry, Public Security and Gendarmerie forces and the Royal Department for Environmental Protection.

The wells were used to extract thousands of cubic meters of non-potable water daily and sell it to tanker truck owners, adding that the case had been referred to the competent authorities for legal action.

The Ministry commended the efforts of local people who reported the violations, stressing that assaults on water sources are a crime punishable by long prison terms and hefty fines.
