The Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) from the Federal Republic of Germany visits Al-Balqa Applied University Excellence Station in Water and Environmental Engineering and Technology (ESWEET) -Fuhais, part of the International Research Center for Water, Environment, and Energy (IRCWEE) of Al-Balqa Applied University
In line with the directives of His Excellency the President of Al-Balqa Applied University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Fakhri Al-Ajlouni, for enhancing the academic and research reputation of the university and its role in serving the community, and towards building effective partnerships with relevant parties and investing in these relationships towards a advanced university, the International Research Center for Water, Environment, and Energy (IRCWEE) continues to present IRCWEE to national and international organizations as a leading center in the fields of water, environment and energy at the local and regional levels.
Mrs. Laura Roig Singh, Regional Director - West and Central Asia of the Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA), accompanied by Engineer Mohammed Shuqairat, visited the Al-Balqa Applied University Station for Excellence in Water and Environmental Engineering and Technology - Fuhais, to learn about the activities of the station and to discuss opportunities for cooperation and joint work. Mrs. Laura and Mr. Mohammed were received by Dr. Naser Almanaseer from Al-Balqa Applied University, co-founder of ESWEET and Director of IRCWEE.
Mrs. Laura expressed her great appreciation for this sustainable model and its role in serving the water sector in Jordan, specifically in providing innovative decentralized solutions to the challenges of water scarcity and environmental pollution and its provision of a unique platform for scientific research and innovation. She stressed that she is happy with what has been accomplished and that she is willing to build strong partnership and include ESWEET within their future as a platform for training and capacity building.
For his part, Dr. Almanaseer explained the role of ESWEET in empowering researchers and university students to contribute to achieving the university’s strategic goals. Dr. Almanaseer also explained the contributions of IRCWEE and ESWEET to the university’s advancement in international rankings in the past few years and their role in serving the community by designing and providing programs to build the capacities of technicians and engineers in the fields of water treatment, water conservation, and water reuse all in line with the SDGs and the Jordanian National Water Strategy. Also, Dr. Almanaseer thanked the Federal German Government and the German people for co-funding the establishment and upgrade of ESWEET.
At the end of visit, Mrs. Laura Roig Singh, Regional Director of the Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA), expressed her thanks to His Excellency the University President for his support to Al-Balqa Applied University Station for Excellence in Water and Environmental Engineering and Technology - Al-Fuhais and his confidence in the necessity of its sustainability. Finally, Mrs. Laura Roig Singh expressed her appreciation for the effort that has been made to establish this unique station, sustain it and creatively utilize it to serve scientific research and innovation in the fields of water and the environment.
BORDA is a technical organization specialized in the field of sustainable environmental protection through integrated sanitation solutions. The organization's activities aim to make living spaces more livable by developing and implementing innovative decentralized sanitation solutions that increase climate resilience, strengthen social structures, and encourage sustainable and conscious use of natural resources. Its activities focus on achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by enabling the transition towards livable and inclusive cities, which give disadvantaged populations in urban and suburban areas access to basic public services such as energy, water, decentralized sanitation, sludge, and solid waste management. Further, BORDA designs new concepts for decentralized water, sanitation and waste systems based on research findings and develops tailored solutions to achieve water and sanitation services for all. In addition, BORDA works to promote capacity building and facilitate dialogue between civil society organizations, communities, government agencies, the private sector, research institutions and international organizations.
