First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Dr. Abdul Rahim Maayah, called for launching "immediate and urgent" action, to take positions in support of Palestinian rights, and end brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip.
Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday, with the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Amman, Ildar Salimov, Maayah stressed importance of His Majesty King Abdullah II's efforts to mobilize international support to stop war on Gaza, protect civilians, and deliver humanitarian aid.
Maayah also noted the King's tour to Europe is of "remarkable" importance, aimed to diagnose scale of Gaza tragedy, as well as dangers of continued war and escalation and warns of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza due to shortage of food, water, medicine, and electricity.
The two sides stressed need to support the King's positions and his efforts to stop aggression against the Palestinians, noting need to respect international law and international humanitarian law in protecting civilians and condemning attacks on them, according to a House statement.
Additionally, Maayah and Salimov stressed importance of supporting Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, pointing to need to drum up international efforts to find a political horizon that guarantees opportunities for achieving just and comprehensive peace on the two-state solution basis and international legitimacy resolutions.
During the meeting, talks focused on strengthening parliamentary relations and coordinating efforts and positions between the Jordanian and Azerbaijani parliaments, to achieve common interests, the statement said.
