Forum#44; Ministry of Planning Discuss Adopting Circular Economy
Nayrouz News Agency :

The Jordan Economic Forum, in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, convened a workshop on Tuesday to promote adopting a circular economy, focusing on the food and beverage processing and plastics and packaging sectors.

Forum Chairperson Mazen Hamoud underscored the significance of economic policies that directly impact citizens and the labor market, emphasizing the need to address unemployment and improve living standards. He highlighted the forum’s commitment to analyzing government decisions, understanding economic indicators, and providing actionable recommendations to bolster the national economy.

Hamoud noted that the workshop reflected months of collaboration with the ministry and other stakeholders, culminating in a study and practical recommendations aimed at addressing economic challenges, enhancing job opportunities, and improving economic conditions for Jordanians.

Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Planning Ahmed Huwaian highlighted the workshop as part of national efforts to embed circular economy principles within Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision, launched under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II in 2022. He pointed to initiatives within the modernization vision that prioritize environmental industrial complexes and circular economy practices, supported by specific standards outlined in the 2023-2025 executive program.

Huwaian explained that the circular economy seeks to balance economic growth and environmental protection by maximizing resource efficiency and minimizing waste. He praised Jordan’s efforts, including the Extended Producer Responsibility Law, infrastructure development for waste recycling, and private sector partnerships, while noting examples from countries like Germany, Turkey, and the UAE.

He highlighted the economic potential of sectors such as manufacturing and waste management, which can drive job creation and innovation. Additionally, he referenced the 40-million-euro green growth grant signed in 2022 and the World Bank’s Country Climate and Development Report as key steps in Jordan's journey toward sustainability and resilience.

Huwaian emphasized the need for collaborative national and international efforts to turn challenges into opportunities that support Jordan's sustainable development goals.
