Further Cementing Collaborations Towards Achieving Better Health


Amman, Jordan (November 2024)- In line with its strategic vision to contribute to the enhancement of healthcare service delivery in Palestine, the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Palestinian Ministry of Health. 

The agreement was signed on November 16 2024 by Palestine’s Minister of Health H.E. Dr Maged Abu Ramadan and EMPHNET’s Executive Director Dr Mohannad Al Nsour within a ceremonial event that took place at EMPHNET’s Headquarters (HQ) in Amman. Notable figures were in attendance including; the Director of the   Palestinian National Institute of Public Health Dr Rand Salman  , Director of Juzoor for Health and Social Development, Dr Umaiyeh Khammash and Juzoor Board Chairperson  Dr Salwa Najjab, amongst others.

The MoU formalizes agreements between both sides, and fosters collaborations in the areas of developing joint healthcare programs, enhancing workforce capacity development, and enabling knowledge and experience exchange between both sides, all with aims to enhance healthcare service delivery in Gaza and the West Bank. 

Following the signing ceremony, a meeting was held at EMPHNET’s HQ with a delegation high officials and subject matter experts in attendance  including: Palestinian Minister of Health H.E. Dr Maged Abu Ramadan, President of Jordan CDC  Dr. Adel Belbeisi, Director of Preventative Medicine at the Jordanian Royal Medical Services Dr Ziad Al Bataineh, and others, all of whom engaged in fruitful discussions that identified frameworks and ways forward towards enhancing means of collaboration. 

Commenting on the agreement signed and its significance, H.E. Dr Maged Abu Ramadan said "This agreement represents a pivotal step forward in our shared outlook to strengthen collaborations between entities working in the field of public health. I anticipate that such collaborations will enhance the quality of  health and life provided to the people in our communities, especially in light of the challenges we are currently facing, and the hurdles hindering healthcare service delivery affecting our country. Collaboration and unity in outlook are key in order for us to be able to preserve our healthcare system and ensure its sustainability”

From his end, Dr Mohannad Al Nsour stated that this agreement signifies the importance of collaboration amongst different entities in Palestine, as such efforts do not only ensure health security for the citizens of Palestine but they also contribute to empowering the Palestinian health workforce and the sustainability of the health system in general, despite challenges.  

This agreement between the Palestinian MoH ad EMPHNET is set to lead to a positive change in the quality of healthcare services provided to the Palestinian people "We look forward to seeing the fruitful outcomes of this agreement, as we see it positively contributing to the health and well being of the people of Gaza and the West Benk” Dr Nsour adds.
