Jordanian Media Workshop Boosts Media Role to Advance Cervical Cancer Awareness and Elimination
Nayrouz News Agency :
the Jordanian Media Workshop on Enhancing Communication for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer was held in Amman. The event was organized by the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) and MSD, in collaboration with the Jordan Ministry of Health (MoH).
The workshop brought together journalists, media professionals, health experts, and MoH officials to strengthen the role of media in promoting awareness and advocacy for cervical cancer prevention and control. Participants discussed effective communication strategies, the importance of accurate and evidence-based health messaging, and the critical role of HPV vaccination and early screening in eliminating cervical cancer.
Through interactive discussions and knowledge exchange, the workshop aimed to build the capacity of media professionals to deliver impactful messages that support both national and global efforts toward cervical cancer elimination.
"Every life matters, and eliminating cervical cancer is a responsibility we all share. Success depends on close collaboration between government bodies, the private sector, and organizations. The media is key in spreading accurate health information that motivates communities to take preventive action,” Mr. Hassan Bibi, MSD External Affairs Director.
During the event, Dr. Abdulla Matouq, Head of the MoH’s Cancer Prevention Department, highlighted the importance of collaboration between partners and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to increasing public awareness and early screening efforts. He also emphasized the Ministry’s work on generating evidence-based data to guide decision-making and inform strategies for cervical cancer prevention and elimination.
Furthermore, EMPHNET presented its policy brief, titled "Accelerating the Elimination of Cervical Cancer in Jordan.” Ms. Zeina AbdelMajeed, EMPHNET’s Senior Technical Officer, remarked:
"This policy brief serves as a roadmap, presenting strategies to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer in Jordan. By focusing on prevention, early detection, treatment, and strengthening healthcare support, we aim to provide actionable guidance for policymakers and stakeholders to protect the health of women across the country.”
In conclusion, the workshop reaffirmed that the media is a powerful partner in public health advocacy, capable of shaping narratives, raising awareness, and driving positive health behavior change toward a future free from cervical cancer.
