The donation, worth more than JD150,000, falls within the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission’s (JAEC) support, in cooperation with the IAEA, of national efforts to combat the novel coronavirus in Jordan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.
The donation includes two reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) early detection devices in addition to personal protection gear, diagnostic reagents, laboratory consumables and biosafety cabinets.
RT-PCR testing is among the principal methods for the rapid detection of viruses, including the coronavirus, Petra said.
Lauding the two institutions’ efforts to provide the Central Labs Directorate with the latest advanced equipment, Minister of Health Saad Jaber also thanked the JAEC and the IAEA for providing Al Bashir Hospital with a linear accelerator and a SPECT-CT device for cancer treatment.
