Kingdom marks 21st anniversary of His Majesty’s coronation
Nayrouz News Agency : The Kingdom on Tuesday celebrates the 21st anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah’s coronation, an occasion that embodies the national harmony between the Jordanian people and their Hashemite leadership.

This coronation anniversary comes amid exceptional circumstances that have affected the whole world since the beginning of 2020.

Since assuming his constitutional responsibilities, on June 9, 1999, His Majesty has been keen on enriching the democratic practice and expanding and upgrading the role of the legislature.

Since His Majesty took the constitutional oath, he has implemented key reforms, paramount of which were constitutional amendments.

The amendments necessitated the enforcement of several new laws governing Jordan’s political life. The Independent Elections Commission was established, while His Majesty issued two Royal Decrees endorsing key reform-related pieces of legislation: the political parties and constitutional court laws.

The King has stressed on many occasions that everyone is a partner in the reform process, highlighting the need to finalise the elections law and hold parliamentary polls before the end of the year.

He has also noted that, in order for political development to be sustainable, it has to go in parallel with economic reforms that improve the living standards of Jordanians.

King Abdullah has also been meeting with members of local communities in their respective areas and participating in the development of strategies to improve their living conditions, among them the Basman Forum meetings.

Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah, continues its historic custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, preserving the Arab identity of the city of Jerusalem as the future capital of Palestine.

His Majesty’s announcement of the end of the annexation of Baqura and Al Ghamr and the imposition of complete Jordanian sovereignty over every inch of them constituted a victory for the Jordanian political will.

His Majesty has been exerting efforts to emphasise the centrality of the Palestinian issue and the need to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with the two-state solution in a manner that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The King directed the government to take measures to improve investment opportunities in the country and create a suitable climate for attracting direct foreign investment so as to create job opportunities and enhance the living standards of citizens.

The King also pays a great attention to the youth sector in the country, meeting with representatives in schools, universities and youth institutions.

On regional and international fronts, King Abdullah maintained close contact with key political, business, academic and religious figures in the Arab world, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas to continue to promote peace, security and opportunities for progress and prosperity.
