His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, met on Tuesday, via teleconference, with a joint delegation from the Russian foreign and defence ministries, headed by Russian Special Presidential Envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev.
Special Envoy Lavrentiev conveyed the greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin to King Abdullah, who in turn asked Lavrentiev to convey his greetings to President Putin, underscoring the strong ties between the two countries, and keenness to enhance them across various sectors, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty stressed the need to maintain coordination and consultation between Jordan and Russia on issues of mutual concern.
The meeting also covered the latest developments in the region, and efforts to reach political solutions to regional crises.
Discussing the Syrian crisis, the King reaffirmed the need to reach a political solution that safeguards the territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people, while guaranteeing the voluntary and safe return of refugees.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Adviser to His Majesty for Policies Haifa Khraisha, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, and General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni attended the meeting.
