Kingdom sees stability in number of registered virus cases — Obeidat
Nayrouz News Agency :
Health Minister Nathir Obeidat on Monday said that the recent epidemiological curve showed stability in the number of registered cases.

During a joint press briefing held at the Prime Ministry, Obeidat said that the drop in the positive rate of COVID cases — confirmed cases to total COVID-19 tests conducted — below 20 per cent and the proximity between numbers of hospitalised and discharged patients are positive indicators of a stable COVID-19 curve.

In regard to the awaited coronavirus vaccine, Obeidat pointed out that it will be optional and free of charge to all those residing in the Kingdom.

He added that the distribution will conform to a comprehensive plan devised in partnership with the Jordanian Royal Medical Services and National Centre for Security and Crisis Management.

The minister also stressed that the epidemiological situation remains critical and requires the public’s adherence to defence orders, wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing.

Speaking at the press briefing, Minister of State for Media Affairs Ali Al Ayed said there will be no comprehensive curfew other than that which is imposed on Fridays, until the end of 2020.

Also speaking at the press briefing, Wael Hayajneh, secretary general of the Health Ministry for epidemiological affairs and the official in charge of the COVID-19 crisis, said that the number of cases admitted to hospitals is "close to recovery, which is a proof of a stable epidemiological curve”.

Hayajneh added that bed occupancy rate in hospitals stands at 43 per cent, noting that there are 2,000 citizens currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

He noted that there is a "cautious optimism”, stressing that the public should exercise "utmost adherence” to preventive measures during this stage to maintain control over the epidemiological curve, Petra reported.
