MPs lob 13 questions at gov’t during oversight session
Nayrouz News Agency :

The Lower House, in an oversight session on Wednesday, discussed 13 questions from MPs.

Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kisbi, answering MP Khair Abu Salik on the Khraibet Assouq intersection tunnel project, said that studies began in 2014, but obstacles related to additional works have hindered the studies, adding that an amount of JD83,000 was spent on the studies while JD8,000 is remaining.

Kisbi said that engineering studies are being conducted to address traffic congestion at the intersection, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Abu Salik postponed the discussion of the question until communicating with the minister for more details, with Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh emphasising the importance of sharing more information about the project and proposing solutions to ease living conditions of area residents.

Deputy Omar Al Ayasra also requested to postpone his response regarding government’s answer to inquiries on the project of the industrial city in Jerash, as the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali, said that the completion rate in the project reached 90 per cent since 2016, expecting infrastructure works of the 208-dunum project to be completed by the end of this year.

MP Abdulrahman Awaisheh accepted the government’s answer related to the decision on holding final university examinations for graduate students online.

MP Saleh Armouti questioned the transport agreements that regulate truck movement between Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Oman. Interior Minister Samir Mubaideen said that all agreements stipulate the implementation of the principle of reciprocity, noting that in response to the pandemic, back-to-back shipment had been imposed but these measures have been cancelled as of the beginning of this year.

About 250 to 300 trucks enter the Kingdom on a daily basis, the minister added.

MP Fawaz Zoubi decided to turn his question about the Khirbeth Samrah wastewater treatment plant to an inquiry, as he was not satisfied with the response of Water and Irrigation Minister Motasem Saidan.

MP Rashed Shouha postponed his decision about his question on the failure of implementing a decision made by the High Court of Justice in 2007, after he listened to the government explanations in this regard.

MP Yanal Fraihat decided to turn his question about the appointment of the director of the Public-Private Partnership Projects Unit into an inquiry.

MP Raed Thahrawi inquired about the Education Ministry’s plans to build schools in Ruseifah district. The education minister said that the region has not witnessed any opening of new schools since 2011.

The session was adjourned until next Sunday morning.

MP Mohammed Thahrawi, head of the House’s Palestine Committee, called on the government to follow up on the issue of Jordanian detainees in Israeli prisons.
