Sixty-nine COVID-19 deaths and 8,910 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload to 495,380, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 5, 497 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 20.12 per cent, compared with 19.36 per cent reported on Monday.

A total of 44,284 virus tests were also conducted on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,267,567, according to the statement.

The statement added that 5,335 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Tuesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 406,654.

The statement added that there are currently 83,229 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 490 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 2,981, the statement said, adding that 286 recovered patients left hospitals.

The statement revealed that the number of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients in hospitals on Monday totalled 2,283, registering an occupancy rate of 43 per cent, while a total of 648 ICU beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients, at a rate of 51 per cent.

A total of 365 ventilators were used for treating COVID-19 patients, at an occupancy rate of 31 per cent.

The cases comprised 4,842 infections in Amman, 1,158 in Irbid, including 32 in Ramtha District, 678 in Zarqa, 564 in Balqa, 345 in Karak, 290 in Aqaba, 236 in Mafraq, 209 in Madaba, 185 in Maan, including 15 cases in Petra District, 165 in Jerash, 122 in Ajloun and 116 in Tafileh.
