Jordan records highest daily COVID19 death toll of 108

 One hundred and eight COVID-19 deaths and 9,269 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Monday, increasing the caseload to 544,724, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 5,985, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The cases comprised 4,510 infections in Amman, 1,151 in Irbid, including 101 in Ramtha District, 362 in Mafraq, 1069 in Zarqa, 661 in Balqa, 230 in Karak, 223 in Ajloun, 144 in Tafileh, 259 in Aqaba, 280 in Madaba, 212 in Jerash, and 141 in Maan, including 48 in Petra District.

The statement added that there are currently 97,500 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 440 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Monday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 3,277, the statement said, adding that 365 recovered patients left hospitals.

In the northern region, the statement revealed that current occupancy rate for isolation beds reached 45 per cent, 76 per cent for ICU beds and 39 per cent for ventilators, the statement revealed.

In the central region, the occupancy rate for isolation beds reached 71 per cent, 78 per cent for ICU beds and 46 per cent for ventilators, the statement added.

In the southern region, the occupancy rate for isolation beds reached 31 per cent, 25 per cent for ICU beds and 21 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that 7,072 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Monday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 441,239.

A total of 45,933 virus tests were also conducted on Monday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 5,523,736, with the share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, standing at 20.18 per cent compared with 18.89 per cent recorded on Sunday, the statement added.
