Minister of Finance Minister Mohamad Al-Ississ in a phone call on Saturday discussed economic updates with the US Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Jordanian minister first lauded the continuous support provided by the US to Jordan. He also discussed the latest economic developments, especially what the world is suffering from as a result of the pandemic.
Reviewing the measures taken by the government to combat the pandemic and mitigate its health and economic ramifications, he focused on the most prominent features of the structural reform programme that the government is committed to in order to achieve economic recovery.
Describing high unemployment rates as "the government's biggest concern”, he stressed the need to accelerate economic growth and reduce business costs borne by the private sector to create more job opportunities.
Yellen referred to the vitality of cooperation, voicing her aspirations of furthering common interests.
She also highlighted the need to overcome challenges such as ending the pandemic and shifting attention to economic recovery along with other urgent issues, stressing the significance of maintaining the strong relation between the two countries.
Yellen confirmed the continuation of her country’s support to Jordan’s journey of reform and economic development, Petra reported.
