Fifty-two COVID-19 deaths and 1,731 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 702,154, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 8,615, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 10.38 per cent, compared with 10.63 per cent reported on Saturday.

A total of 16,681 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,610,353, according to the statement.

The statement added that 3,565 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 668,337.

The statement added that there are currently 25,202 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 212 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 1,802, the statement said, adding that 195 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 30 per cent, ICU beds reached 56 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 37 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 35 per cent, 55 per cent for ICUs and 29 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 20 per cent, 28 per cent for ICUs and 18 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 401 infections in Amman, 223 in Irbid, including 13 in Ramtha District, 59 in Balqa, 134 in Karak, 71 in Jerash, 311 in Zarqa, 50 in Aqaba, 69 in Madaba, 210 in Mafraq, 59 in Ajloun, 103 in Tafileh and 41 in Maan.
