The University of Jordan (UJ) on Tuesday attained an advanced global ranking in three fields including dentistry, nursing and computer science engineering, according to the international classification of academic fields for the year 2021, the Shanghai Ranking, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
In the field of computer science engineering, the UJ ranked first nationally, and in the 201-300 category globally, compared with last year, when it was placed within the 301-400 category.
The field of nursing also maintained its first place nationally and within the 151-200 category globally, while the field of dentistry ranked in the 201-300 category globally.
University President Abdul Karim Qudah said that this achievement highlights "the pioneering role of the university, which reflects its vision and goals to provide high-quality education and solid scientific research with a global impact in terms of quantity and quality”.
It also emphasises UJ’s "clear strategy in supporting distinguished researchers and adopting deliberate practical steps, to encourage scientific networking, and build strategic partnerships with many prestigious international universities”, he added.
Director of the Centre for Accreditation and Quality Assurance at the university Manwar Trakiya noted that the "Shanghai Ranking" classifies scientific institutions according to 54 fields in natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.
To be eligible, universities needed a minimum number of research publications during the period between 2015 and 2019.
