The Education Ministry’s Academic Loss Compensation Programme for school students will commence in mid-August and continue until mid-September, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Registration for the programme, which aims to compensate students for the lessons they missed during the pandemic, began in July.

According to the ministry, the programme will help prepare students mentally and academically to return to school and make up for the lessons they have missed.

The ministry noted that the Academic Loss Compensation Programme will take place daily in schools. 

The programme aims to compensate for academic losses in Arabic, English, math and science subjects from the first to 11th grades, according to Petra.

The ministry also launched a training programme for teachers at the beginning of August on implementing the Academic Loss Compensation Programme.

As the academic year approaches, many students are eager to return to schools after more than a year of distance learning.

Tuleen Abdelqadir, a ninth grader in a public school in Amman, expressed her excitement to return to school.

"I cannot wait to be in the classroom again, which is one of the reasons why I registered for the compensation programme,” she said.

Abdelqadir said that the online classes for eighth grade were "insufficient”.

"These grades are important as they are a transitional point in our education. Having to attend all the courses online was really difficult. I am glad we get to somehow compensate at least parts of what we have lost,” Abdelqadir told The Jordan Times on Monday.

Sameer Akhras, a science teacher in a public school in Amman, said that the Academic Loss Compensation Programme is a "great initiative to help students”.

Akhras took part in the training programme by the ministry as well.

"The training programme was highly beneficial. After a year of teaching behind a screen, I believe all teachers needed this to be able to professionally get back in the classroom,” Akhras told The Jordan Times on Monday.
