Amman court jails officials on corruption charges
Nayrouz News Agency :

The Amman Magistrates Court issued verdicts against a number of officials on charges of corruption, including forgery of documents, abuse of office and neglect of duty.

The rulings, including the suspension of a ministry official and one-year jail terms against a mayor and 12 members of the municipal council in one of the governorates, were handed down by the Amman Magistrates Court after multiple hearings. The rulings are subject to appeal.

The court heard the testimony of a witness in the case involving the ministry official, who was charged of selling mobile phone lines and devices that were offered to employees, which amounted to JD190,000.

The mayor and council members were convicted of splitting two bids in violation of regulations and instructions related to supplies and municipal works, the Penal Code and the Municipal Law, sentencing them to one year in prison and a fine of JD4,000 each.

Another mayor was sentenced to eight months in prison after convicting him of forgery of documents and misconduct in public office.
