Jordan Valley Authority: Operation of Ibn Hammad Dam with a storage capacity of 4 million cubic meters
Nayrouz News Agency : The Jordan Valley Authority has completed the work of implementing the Ibn Hammad Dam in the modern Ghor area in the Southern Jordan Valley in the Karak Governorate, with a total storage capacity of 4.0 million cubic meters, with the aim of providing irrigation water for agricultural units in the Jordan Valley and for industrial uses, in addition to underground nutrition.
According to a statement by the authority, the dam consists of rolled concrete in the center area, shoulders of rocky rubble with a mud core on the left and right sides, four intakes at different levels, a main line for the purposes of operating the dam, and a drainage tunnel for the purposes of draining water during implementation. The final cost of the project amounted to about 53 million dinars, financed by 7.5 million dinars from the state treasury, and the rest of the funding from the Arab Potash Company, so that the company recovers what it contributed by reducing the price of industrial water under a financing agreement between the authority and the company.
The project was implemented by Marwan Ahmed Al-Kurdi and Partners Company in alliance with Anx Contracting Company, and the contractual project implementation period was 810 working days.
The total storage capacity of the dams will rise to 285.26 million cubic metres.
The number of major dams in the Kingdom became 14 after the Karama Dam was removed from the dams' water balance.
It is expected that the Jordan Valley Authority will operate the Al-Fidan Dam in Wadi Araba in the coming weeks
