On behalf of the Director General of the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), and in cooperation with the Jordanian University of Science and Technology (JUST), Eng. Yahya Bani Khalaf, the Director of Ramtha Agricultural Research Center, inaugurated a participatory workshop on the uses of bio charcoal to improve soil properties and maximize production for wheat and barley.
Bani Khalaf stated that this workshop is important to help find solutions for the challenges facing the agricultural sector, agricultural soils in particular, through improving soil properties and maximizing production of wheat and barley, through partnership with academic institutions and exchange of experiences in this field.
Bani Khalaf captioned on the experiment: "this experiment is being implemented at the Ramtha Agricultural Research Station; NARC and all its research stations are open for the purposes of scientific research and achieving comprehensive agricultural development".
Dr. Osama Muhawesh, head of the Jordan Bio charcoal Initiative and a visiting professor at JUST, commended on the role played by NARC to network with academic institutions to enhance scientific research, and harness research capabilities and exchange scientific experiences, while also emphasizing on the importance of this workshop in introducing participants to the most important good agricultural practices to improve the properties of soils to promote sustainable food security.
