Nayrouz News Agency :
Today, Thursday, the Jerash Prosecutor charged the crime of vandalizing and mutilating antiquities, in accordance with the provisions of Article 26 of the Antiquities Law, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 443 of the Penal Code, for a person who wrote and defaced an archaeological column in the ancient city of Jerash, and decided based on that to detain the person committing these two crimes for a week.
According to a judicial source, the penalty for violating the Antiquities Law is no less than one year and not more than three years, and a fine of no less than three thousand dinars, while the penalty stipulated in the Penal Code related to crimes of violating the Antiquities Law ranges from three months to three years and a fine of 100- 500 dinars.
The source emphasized that the Antiquities Law prevented the introduction of mitigating reasons to reduce the penalty to the limit specified in the law.
