Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, on Friday in Nicosia, met with Cypriot House Speaker Annita Demetriou, where they discussed enhancing ties between the two countries and the latest developments in the Middle East region.
The two sides stressed the strength of the friendship that brings together Amman and Nicosia, and the importance of the advanced cooperation it is witnessing, in the context of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Greece, and in the framework of the partnership with the European Union.
Safadi briefed Demetriou on efforts and contacts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve security and stability in the region, and create a real political horizon to achieve peace on the basis of the two-state solution.
Safadi praised Cyprus' firm position in support of the two-state solution in accordance with international law and international legitimacy resolutions, stressing the need to respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites, and the centrality of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites.
He also stressed Jordan's support for efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue politically and in line with relevant United Nations resolutions.
For her part, Demetriou stressed her country's appreciation of Jordan's key role in the region, and the efforts led by His Majesty the King to consolidate security and stability, and enhance regional cooperation.
She voiced her country's keenness to promote cooperation with Jordan in various fields, in a way that would positively reflect on the two friendly countries and the region.
