Customs officers at the Zarqa Free Zone foiled an attempt to smuggle in 8,387 electronic cigarettes, which were stashed inside air pumps, and seized the contraband pending legal action.
Customs Department Director General, Brig. Gen. Jalal Qudah, commended the efficiency of agents in the Kingdom's customs centres "for standing firmly to counter those trying to tamper with the national economy, and prevent them from entering any harmful substances that have a direct negative impact on the health and safety of citizens."
He pointed out that e-cigarettes are banned and will be confiscated for not being authorized by the Ministry of Health and the Workld Health Organisation.
