The Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Mr. QU Dongyou, visited the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) to explore NARC activities as well as FAO projects implemented at NARC, in the presence of H.E. Eng. Khaled Al Hnaifat, the Minister of Agriculture; Assistant Director General and Regional Representative of FAO Dr. Abdulhakim Elwaer; and FAO representative in Jordan Mr. Nabil Assaf.
His Excellency, the Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Khaled Al Hnaifat, valued the role of FAO in supporting the agricultural sector, transferring modern technology, and empowering Jordanian farmers, while addressing the challenges facing the agricultural sector, especially challenges related to climate, water, and energy.
During the visit, the Director-General of NARC, Dr. Nizar Haddad, welcomed the visiting delegation, asserting the strong partnership between NARC and FAO in the development of scientific research and technology transfer through many projects implemented at NARC; particularly Farmers' Field Schools (FFS) and the employment of innovation and creativity in the agricultural sector interpreted in "Ma' Al Muzare' mobile application" for instance, which shall enhance the role of farmers in adopting modern agricultural practices.
FAO Director-General Mr. QU Dongyou stated that NARC has an active role to play, to positively be reflected on comprehensive agricultural development and creating job opportunities for Jordanian youth.
