The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) collaborated to organize a three-day bootcamp today, to enhance the capabilities of professionals who work in the standardization and conformity assessment fields and strengthen ties with academic staff.

In her speech, the Director General of JSMO, Eng. Abeer Barakat Al-Zuhair, stressed in her speech the importance of the IEC standards to enhance international trade, facilitate access to electricity on a large scale, and address issues of health, safety, security, energy, and climate change in a way that supports the goals of sustainable development and improves people's quality of life.

She continued by saying that developing standards in collaboration with the academic and industrial sectors would assist in fostering strong connections between them. Through this collaboration, standards are made more compatible with industry and consumer needs, technology and innovation are improved, and the nation's financial system to compete in foreign markets.

As Jordan joined the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2009, Al-Zuhair noted that despite its limited resources, Jordan actively participates in the processes of preparing international standards, including those issued by the IEC. Jordan participates as an active member in some IEC technical committees based on specific criteria related to local production capacity, export potential to global markets, risks arising from those products, and the availability of some technical testing facilities in Jordan.

The purpose of the IEC Bootcamp was to familiarize attendees with the principles of standardization principles that the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has put into place and its conformity assessment programs. It also focused on the importance of activating the collaboration between the industrial and academic sectors and encouraged them to become involved in the work of the Jorand National Committee of IEC.
