Amman, June 10, 2026 – The Embassy of Mexico participated in the 14th edition of the Women’s Film Festival, organized by UN Women in Jordan, with a special screening of the Mexican documentary Tan Cerca de las Nubes (So Close to the Clouds) at the Rainbow Theater in Amman. The event brought together representatives of international organizations, women’s groups, diplomats, journalists, students, and members of the Mexican community.
The event forms part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural ties between Mexico and Jordan and to promote dialogue on issues of shared social importance. In his remarks, Ambassador Jacob Prado reaffirmed Mexico’s commitment to advancing gender equality and creating opportunities for girls and women through cultural diplomacy, education, and international cooperation.
The film was introduced by Yulixa Houkayem (16), winner of the annual "Mexican Ambassador for a Day” competition. Organized as part of Mexico’s Feminist Foreign Policy, this Embassy’s program seeks to empower young Jordanian women, foster leadership skills, and introduce participants to Mexican culture, traditions, and diplomacy. As this year’s winner, Ms. Houkayem yesterday served symbolically as Ambassador of Mexico to Jordan with a full agenda.
Directed by Manuel Cañibe, the documentary tells the inspiring story of Mexico’s first women’s national football team, whose members overcame social prejudice and gender barriers to compete on the international stage. Through archival footage and personal testimonies, the film highlights the determination and resilience of these pioneering athletes, underscoring the importance of equal opportunities for women and girls. Its screening formed part of the broader objectives of Women’s Film Festival to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
