Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Jordan Eldar Salimov on Wednesday highlighted the importance of Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in achieving global and regional security and stability.
During a press conference on the occasion of assuming his office, Salimov highlighted the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Describing the Jordanian-Azerbaijani relations as "distinguished and exceptional”, the diplomat expressed keenness to push forward bilateral relations in all fields, noting that the two countries will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2023.
He also expressed appreciation of Jordan’s supportive stance towards his country.
On their cooperation in the educational and cultural field, the diplomat pointed out that Azerbaijan offers Jordanian students a number of annual scholarships, as part of the scholarships allocated to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation members.
He also discussed the operation of a direct airline between the countries, which had been disrupted due to the COVID pandemic, and emphasised its importance to increase the amount of tourist exchange.
