The National Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Genetics announced the launch of a genetic counseling clinic.
The deputy director of the center, Dr. Muhammad Al-Khatib, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the clinic will provide its services to patients on Sunday and Tuesday of every week from nine in the morning until one in the afternoon, on the eighth floor of the center’s expansion building, and the visitors will be received starting from the first of November next.
Genetic counseling is the process of educating people about the role of genetic material in the emergence of certain diseases, and helping them understand the medical, family and psychological effects and risks related to them.
This process includes extracting and interpreting the family’s sick history and clinical data related to it, educating patients and their families about the types of diseases resulting from genetic defects, ways of inheriting them and the possibility of recurrence and avoiding them in later pregnancies, in addition to educating the available genetic material examinations and the necessary medical care, and providing patients and their families with references and sources Reliable informatics and counseling and psychological support for them.
