Amidst the complex landscape of global trade dynamics, Qatar's trade sector is witnessing a marked upswing in its imports of Jordanian dates and food products.
According to an analysis conducted by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), based on the latest statistics released by Qatar's Planning and Statistics Authority, a notable uptick in the inflow of Jordanian agricultural offerings into the Qatari market has been recognized.
The volumes of imported Jordanian dates have surged by a significant 10.1% during the initial seven months of the present year, reaching an impressive 72 tons. This trajectory reflects a discernible increase from the corresponding period in 2022, which stood at 64.7 tons, and a notable rise from the equivalent timeframe in 2021, registering 57.6 tons.
Qatar's affinity for Jordanian dates is underpinned by several factors. These dates are esteemed for their superior quality and competitive pricing, culminating in a strong appeal to a diverse array of consumers in the Qatari market. Notably, the 'Majhool' and 'Barhi' date varieties have assumed a prominent position in Qatar's imports from Jordan.
Traders specializing in dates and import-export businesses within Qatar attribute this surge to the confluence of multiple factors, including the high caliber and variety of Jordanian dates, their inherent competitiveness, and the harmonization of quality standards and food safety norms between Qatar and Jordan.
Industry observers have earmarked this growth as an indicator of Qatar's unwavering commitment to nurturing bilateral economic partnerships and furthering the mutual ambitions of both countries. As a result, the anticipation of a notable upswing in the importation of Jordanian dates remains on the horizon, bolstered by sustained demand within the Qatari market.
Evidently, the momentum of this bilateral trade relationship holds substantial promise, as Jordan's preeminence in the production of dates, a strategic agricultural commodity, is punctuated by an annual escalation in production and exports. Among the key external markets for Jordanian dates, the Gulf region - with Qatar at the forefront - emerges as a pivotal destination for these exports.
