Nayrouz News Agency : The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the start of preparing the tender documents for the first part of the Baghdad International Road rehabilitation project, after completing the preliminary procedures necessary to proceed with the bidding procedures and the necessary financing for the project within the Kuwaiti loan agreement phase II, at a cost of 3 million dinars for the entire part, to be implemented at the beginning of the year next.
And the ministry indicated in a press statement today, Monday, that the works in the first part include the reconstruction of the old road from the Salhiya triangle to the Saidia intersection, and from the Al-Ba’j signal to the Umm Al-Jimal triangle, with expansion work on both sides of the road and the work of a median island with the implementation of rainwater drainage works and strengthening The entire road with traffic safety elements, the implementation of a traffic light at the Saïdia - Sobha intersection, and all the necessary technical works, according to the highest international engineering standards, in addition to the necessary traffic diversions to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the road.
The ministry explained that the project was divided according to the studies prepared previously for several parts from Al-Safawi to Al-Karama Border Center, with a length of 175 km, and from Mafraq to the Azraq-Safawi triangle with a length of 90 km, and from Azraq Road to Safawi with a length of 50 km, where the entire road becomes 4 lanes separated by a central island, in addition to constructing service roads on both sides of the road in residential areas according to the highest international engineering standards followed.
Work on the project also includes nine separate intersections with bridges: Al-Ba’ij, Umm Al-Jamal, Aqib, Nayfeh, Al-Bashriya, and separate intersections with tunnels: Zaatari, Rawdat Basma, Saidia, Hamra Suhaim. The ministry indicated that a traffic light is currently being implemented at the Umm Al-Jimal intersection, explaining that the division of work into parts was done to maintain smooth traffic on the road, and the bidding procedures for the rest of the parts will be carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities, after completing the procedures for providing the necessary allocations for their implementation. .
She stressed that the financial amounts spent on the projects that are being worked on are subject to the supervision of the relevant authorities.
